The natural smile

What makes a veneer smile look natural?

A natural-looking veneer smile is planned around your face, not picked from a catalog. Three things do most of the work.

  • Your face leads. Length, width and outline follow your lips, your features and how your teeth meet.
  • Shade, translucency and texture. Real teeth aren't one flat white, so neither are good veneers.
  • Careful preparation. Most veneers need a thin layer of enamel removed, which can't be undone. You'll know the plan for each tooth first.

How porcelain veneers work

The first visit

What happens at your first consultation?

It starts with a conversation and an exam, not a sales pitch. There are three steps.

  1. Talk about your goals.

Tell Dr. Farahnik what you'd change. Bring photos of smiles you like, or start with a phone call.

  2. Exam and records.

He checks your teeth, gums and bite, and treats decay or gum disease before cosmetic work begins.

  3. A written plan.

After the exam, you get your plan, fee, timeline, risks and alternatives in writing.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about veneers in Los Angeles

How long do porcelain veneers last?

Porcelain veneers are durable, but they aren't lifetime restorations, and most will need replacing at some point. How long yours last depends on your bite, habits such as grinding or clenching, and how you care for your teeth. Dr. Farahnik will talk through what to expect in your situation.

Do porcelain veneers damage your natural teeth?

Usually, getting porcelain veneers means removing a thin layer of enamel so they fit and look natural. Enamel doesn't grow back, so that step can't be undone, and the prepared teeth will always need a covering. Before you decide, Dr. Farahnik will explain how much preparation each tooth needs and whether a less invasive option could meet your goals.

How much do veneers cost?

The fee depends on your plan, including how many teeth are treated, the materials and any supporting care. You'll get a written treatment plan and fee after your exam. Dr. Farahnik works with all budgets and price ranges. Financing is available through Cherry, CareCredit, Sunbit and in-house financing.

Can I start with a phone consultation?

Yes. You can start with a phone call to talk through your goals and options, which helps if you live farther away. A final treatment plan always needs an in-person exam at the office, because Dr. Farahnik has to check your teeth, gums and bite directly.

What should I do in a dental emergency?

It depends on how serious it is. Dial 911 if swelling is making breathing or swallowing hard, and go to an emergency room for bleeding that won't stop or a serious mouth or face injury. For a severe toothache, a broken tooth or a lost crown or veneer, call (818) 658-9285. Dr. Farahnik is on call for emergencies, including evenings and weekends.
